A North Carolina police officer was recently killed while confronting a carjacker. On Wednesday, the Concord Police Department confirmed the loss after two officers confronted a suspect outside of a Sonic Drive-In.
According to reports, Concord PD initially received a call about a car crash, which led to a pursuit of the suspect driving a stolen car.
While one officer is expected to recover, Officer Jason Shuping and the suspect were both killed in the exchange. Investigators said the loss has wounded the community and is a steady reminder of the daily sacrifice made by law enforcement.

“This tragic and senseless loss of a member of our CPD family is devastating,” CPD Chief Gary Gacek stated. “Not only to the officer’s family and loved ones, but to every law enforcement officer in the city, county, state, and country.”

Memorials for the fallen officer were quickly sent in as the public expressed their condolences to Officer Shuping’s friends and family.
