A police officer who was shot in the face in West Virginia has died from her injuries.
On Thursday, the Charleston Police Department confirmed 28-year-old officer Cassie Johnson was taken off life support. She was pronounced dead at 4 p.m.

On December 1, Johnson was responding to a traffic complaint when 38-year-old Joshua Phillips allegedly shot her in the face. The officer quickly underwent surgery.

“I never dreamed until this happened how many people in this community loved her,” Johnson’s mother said. “That means more to me than anything in this world.”
The Charleston Police Department has started a ‘Go-Fund-Me‘ to help the family with medical expenses. A date for the funeral will be announced at a later date.
