White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany referred to strict coronavirus guidelines as ‘Orwellian.’
At Friday’s press briefing, McEnany used Oregon as an example of attempting to take American freedoms away. This came after Governor Kate Brown warned of jail time for residents in violation of the state’s mandatory coronavirus two-week freeze.
“It is, by definition, Orwellian for a state like Oregon to say, if you have more than six people in your family congregate in your home, we can jail you for 30 days,” the White House press secretary stated. “That’s not the American way.”

She added the American people know CDC recommendations and guidelines as we’ve been talking about the pandemic for 10 months.
“The American people still have certain freedoms, still have the autonomy,” McEnany said. “And still can make important self-responsibility decisions themselves.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence recently stated he supports local and state decision-making.
