Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar recently testified on vaccine developments before members of Congress. He met with the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Friday, hours after President Trump tested positive for the virus.
Azar stated the Food and Drug Administration is not being rushed to produce a vaccine before scientists affirm its safety. This came after Democrats accused the President of pressuring the FDA to produce a vaccine prematurely.
The secretary went on to testify on the progress of several coronavirus vaccine options.
“Today we have four candidates in U.S. phase three clinical trials, and industrial scale manufacturing is underway on all six vaccines as we have contracted for investment,” he said. “These are extraordinary results.”
Azar confirmed he and his family will be taking the vaccine. He has expressed that other families should be confident in the vaccine as well.
