Thousands of protestors recently took to the streets in Montenegro to show their support for President Milo Djukanovic. Demonstrators gathered in the nation’s capital on Sunday, waving national flags in protest of last weeks parliamentary election ousting Djukanovic from power.
This came after three opposition groups declared victory over the president’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS). Citizens fear if the opposition gains control, the coalition will pull the country out of NATO and pursue closer ties with Serbia and Russia instead.
“Today I came to the capital of Montenegro with my friends and my family to support our state, to help many people remember what their ancestors did and what they died for,” stated Dragomir Pekovic, a DPS supporter. “And that is for justice, honor and freedom of Montenegro.”
A state election commission is expected to announce the final results in the coming days.
