According to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the White House and GOP are “very far apart” from Democrats on negotiations over the latest coronavirus relief bill.
While speaking alongside President Trump at the White House, Mnunchin stated officials are especially struggling to come to a consensus on unemployment benefits and housing evictions.
Negotiations will now shift focus towards acquiring short-term extensions on jobless benefits and eviction moratoriums.
“As of now, we’re very far apart,” he added. “Because of that, we have discussed a short-term extension to UI and the evictions, so that we have some period to negotiate before this runs out.”
President Trump went on to criticize Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, for “not taking care of the people.”
