An unidentified gunman attacked the family of a federal judge, which resulted in the death of her son and left her husband in critical condition.
Police said the person, who was disguised as a delivery driver, approached the home of U.S. District Judge Esther Salas in New Jersey on Sunday evening.
Her husband, criminal defense attorney Mark Anderl, reportedly answered the door and was met with gunfire. That’s when officials said their 20-year-old son Daniel ran to the door before being fatally shot by the suspect.
Judge Sala was reportedly in the basement at the time of the shooting and was uninjured in the incident. Meanwhile, her husband was rushed to a near by hospital for an emergency surgery and officials sad he’s in serious, but stable condition.

The FBI and Marshals Service are looking into the attack and working to piece together a potential motive. Salas has overseen a list of high-profile cases during her time as a federal judge and have reported receiving threats from time to time.
No arrests have been made at this time.
