Senate Republicans have urged the public to wear masks amid new outbreaks of the coronavirus in the U.S. On Friday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) stressed people should cover their faces to protect themselves and help protect others.
He has said he saw various events on television with people not wearing masks or taking the pandemic seriously.
The majority leader added the public should continue wearing masks until there is a vaccine.
“Until we find a vaccine, these (masks) are really important,” he said. “This is not as complicated as a ventilator, and this is a way to indicate that you want to protect others.”
The senator’s message followed recent CDC reports of upticks in COVID-19 cases across the country. Several states have paused reopening measures in response.
