Iowa extended its public health emergency this week amid the coronavirus pandemic. On Thursday, Governor Kim Reynolds confirmed she will extend her proclamation by an additional 30 days.
Reynolds noted some areas with younger populations, like college towns, have seen increases in virus cases.
However, the state’s overall number of positive cases, hospitalizations and deaths has steadily gone down.
“The extension of the proclamation will remain focused on actively managing COVID-19 in Iowa,” stated the governor. “We continue to assess virus activity and the progress of our response on a daily basis, as we have from the very start.”
She encouraged those with symptoms or underlying conditions to continue taking extra precautions.
