On Friday, Vice President Mike Pence held a listening session with leaders in the black community. While speaking at the Covenant Church in Pittsburgh, Pence said he was inspired by the testimonies given.
Thank you, Bishop Joseph Garlington, Sr., Covenant Church of Pittsburgh, and faith and community leaders for the thoughtful and insightful conversation about equality and equal opportunity for all Americans and how we can better support the African American community. pic.twitter.com/cLLdIAUrji

He also said he’s encouraged by the progress made in America, but is now challenged to build on it.
The vice president agreed that racism is not a skin issue, it’s a sin issue.
“The church has always played a central role in our march toward a more perfect union,” stated Pence. “You cannot understand the abolition of slavery without understanding the moral voice of the church in the generations that preceded that great conflict.”
We are going to continue to have conversations with community leaders across the Country and listen to their insights on how we can encourage healing in our Nation. We will work every day for the safety and prosperity of every American. pic.twitter.com/OfCGSTGlYc
