Rudy Giuliani suggested the officer accused of killing George Floyd will not receive a harsh enough punishment.
During an interview this week, the former New York City mayor said Derek Chauvin should have his charges upgraded to first degree murder if Floyd was found to have died by asphyxiation.
His comments come in the wake of Floyd’s independent autopsy report, which contradicted the results of an earlier county autopsy that reportedly showed “no evidence” of strangulation.
“I don’t believe they’ve been charged harshly enough,” he stated. “I think the Minnesota authorities, Minneapolis authorities have badly handled this case and they should be charged with first degree murder, particularly the police officer who has his knee on the neck of mister Floyd.”
Later in that interview, Giuliani also condemned democratic state officials who he said have failed to do more to stop the violent riots that have broken out across the country.
