The introduction of the first transgender “stormtrooper” in the cherished sci-fi franchise by “Star Wars” has prompted split fan reactions.

The new trans character’s name will be “Sister,” and the stormtrooper was debuted this week in a new book called “Star Wars: The Secrets of the Clone Troopers.”

The book featured images of the character dressed in armor painted in the transgender flag’s pink and blue hues.

“When one of our kind expressed her gender identity differently than her fellow troopers, she featured [sic] she’d have to hide who she truly was inside. Fortunately, her brothers in the 7th Sky Corps gave her the name Sister as a constant reminder that she belonged,” the Star Wars Holocron X account posted.

“Sister [first] made her ‘Star Wars’ canon debut in the 2022 book ‘Queen’s Hope.‘ She served the Galactic Republic alongside Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader) and Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars,” The New York Post reported.

However, the new trans character has not made an appearance yet in any “Star Wars” shows or films, with fans of the franchise anticipating that in the future.

Nevertheless, some noticeable backlash from fans was also made apparent following Disney’s decision to design the transgender Stormtrooper. Disney acquired the rights to “Star Wars” from filmmaker George Lucas in 2012.

“This can’t be real. Gotta be a parody … there is no freaking way!” one X user posted.

“What happened to the franchise I love,” said another.

A third online user wrote, “These people just love to kill escapism and fantasy.”

On the other hand, the franchise’s progressive and pro-LGBTQ fans highly praised the science fiction series for using a trans character to promote “tolerance and inclusivity” of the rising demographic.

The UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute conducted a 2022 study that found the “trans youth population has doubled in 5 years. The number of teenagers and young adults in the United States who identify as transgender has doubled in the past five years.”

“Very happy to see them doubling down on inclusivity and telling transphobes to f*** off. If the existence of one story element that won’t affect anything triggers you that much, that’s a you thing,” posted an X user who highlighted the new character.
