On Tuesday, as the only vice presidential debate scheduled before the November election, it will pit relative newcomers to the national political scene, Ohio GOP Senator JD Vance against Minnesota Democrat Governor Tim Walz.

Three weeks have passed since the previous presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
Although Walz, Harris’s running mate, has a lengthier political history, most U.S. voters outside of Minnesota were not familiar with him prior to joining the Democrat ticket.
Additionally, the 40-year-old senator and author of the book “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance, was elected to government for the first time in 2022—less than two years before Trump chose him to be his running partner.
What Time It Starts And Ends:
Tuesday: the debate will start at 9 p.m. ET. It will run for around 90 minutes, which is the same duration as the two presidential debates. It will end at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Who Will The Moderators Be?
CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” moderator and chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.
Where Is It Taking Place?
In New York City, the debate is being held at the CBS Broadcast Center.
Are There Any VP Debate Rules?
A 90-minute discussion with two four-minute commercial breaks was agreed upon by both campaigns. During the breaks, campaign employees are not permitted to speak with the candidates.
There won’t be an audience, a decision that was made for the two previous presidential debates as well.
The moderators will introduce the candidates in the incumbent party’s order at the beginning of the event, starting with Walz. There won’t be any introductory remarks, according to CBS News.
“Walz will stand behind the lectern on the left side of the stage, which will be on the right side of viewers’ screens. Vance will be at the podium on the right side of the stage, but the left side of screens,” the network added.
Candidates will have two minutes to answer questions and two minutes to respond. They are not permitted to bring props or pre-written notes to the stage.
They can make rebuttals for one minute.
Candidates may also be granted one extra minute to continue speaking on a topic at the moderators’ discretion.
While CBS News has the power to switch off the microphones, unlike the presidential debates, a candidate’s microphone will not be muted during their opponent’s speech, unless the moderators call for it.
On Thursday, Vance emerged victorious in an online coin flip and chose to go second with his concluding remarks. Closing statements from each contender will be allowed a maximum of two minutes.
There will be no advance sharing of subjects or questions with the campaigns.

CBS will air the debate coverage at 8 p.m. ET on “CBS broadcast stations and affiliates.”
