The Capitol Christmas tree arrived in Washington on Friday.

The 63-foot Norway Spruce is one of the two trees selected from the Monongahela National Park in West Virginia.

The tree made several stops before arriving at the Capitol for a welcome ceremony on Friday.

Shawn Cochran, the forest service supervisor for the Monongahela National Forest spoke about the tree’s journey.

“There were 18 stops across the state of West Virginia and the one stop in Chico, Ohio, um, where we connected with local towns, gateway communities, the capitol of West Virginia, universities, schools, um, and veterans groups,” he said. “So yes, there was a long journey and celebration and thousands of people came to celebrate the people’s tree.”

The tree will be put in position in front of the U.S. Capitol.

As part of a tradition since 1954, the tree lighting ceremony will be held on the Capitol’s West Lawn on November 30th.
