Democrats have been screaming about the release of the FISA abuse memo. Prior to its release, they had argued it was going to destroy national security. When it was released and that was obviously shown to be ridiculous hyperbole, they’ve been desperate to try to find a way to spin it. While claiming it’s full of “lies and distortions.” there’s one part that they want you to accept and believe because they think it injures the argument that the investigation was all political against President Donald Trump.
That’s the part about how the FBI investigation started. According to the Nunes memo, the investigation started prior to the FBI receiving the dossier.
The Page FISA application also mentions information regarding fellow Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos, but there is no evidence of any cooperation or conspiracy between Page and Papadopoulos. The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016 by FBI agent Pete Strzok.
According to the Daily Wire:
The FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos began after Australia’s top diplomat in Britain, Alexander Downer, had drinks with Papadopoulos “at an upscale London bar in May 2016.” The New York Times reports:
Exactly how much Mr. Papadopoulos said that night at the Kensington Wine Rooms with the Australian, Alexander Downer, is unclear. But two months later, when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts, according to four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians’ role.
Now, of course, one might argue this is just a drunken person talking about what was general public speculation, that Russia might have hacked Hillary Clinton’s emails, a different subject from the DNC emails.
But this is what appears to have kicked off the investigation. Not to mention that the apparently biased Peter Strzok is the one who made the decision to open the investigation.
Of course, that doesn’t change the problem of Clinton’s involvement in the dossier and that that was critical for the investigation proceeding and getting the warrant.
But there’s another big flaw in the Democrats’ argument.
Because not only can the dossier be traced to the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, so can the tip from Downer. Downer is right now involved in a pay-for-play scandal in Australia because of his involvement in allegedly funneling money to the Clinton Foundation. And the FBI is looking at it.
Michael Smith, an investigative journalist in Australia, claims that Downer is caught up in a major scandal involving the Clinton Foundation that involves allegations of “mishandling millions of dollars contributed to the Clinton Foundation by the Aussie government.”
The materials Smith is giving the FBI focus on a 2006 memorandum of understanding between the Australian government and the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton HIV/AIDs Initiative (CHAI). Smith claims the foundation received a “$25M financial advantage dishonestly obtained by deception” as a result of actions by Bill Clinton and Downer, who was then Australia’s minister of foreign affairs.
And the fact that it may have started with something else doesn’t change how the Democrats and the Clintons effectively tried to influence and push the investigation with the dossier through Steele.
Now, it’s also being reported that a Clinton operative and the Obama State Department were also feeding information to Christopher Steele as well, in addition to the DNC and Clinton paying for the dossier.
There appears to be Clinton influence at every turn in the FBI collusion investigation.
Head-spinning.
And it’s the Trump team who’s under investigation?
