Virginia historians discovered a number of valuable items inside a time capsule found in the base of a General Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond.

Scientists said on Tuesday, the time capsule dating back to 1887 contained a confederate flag, books, rifle ammo, and money among other things.

The statue was torn down earlier this year. Overall, some 60 items were found inside the capsule that were placed there by 37 Richmond residents.

According to reports, Virginia Democrats put a new time capsule in the place where the General Lee statue once stood. The new capsule contains a COVID-19 vaccination card and a Black Lives Matter banner.
