Critics have called out Facebook for its decision to launch an Instagram for children under 13 years old. According to reports, executives announced the move in an internal message to its employees.

Internet safety advocates believe the decision will pave the way for online predators to target minors. The report came after Facebook announced new safety restrictions in its direct messaging feature.

The social media giant said it does not have details of its new plan yet, but added youth outreach is one of its top priorities. Current instagram rules prohibit children under the age of 13 from creating an account.
