The suspected Georgia high school shooter Colt Gray’s mother, Marcee Gray, has released an open letter apologizing to the families of the victims, while also claiming that her son “is not a monster.”

Colt is being charged with four counts of felony murder for the deaths of two teachers at Apalachee High School. 53-year-old Cristina Irimie, 39-year-old Richard Aspinwall, and two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, are the victims whose lives were taken on that day.
“To the parents and families of those affected by the tragic events at Apalachee High School, I want to say that I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart,” Marcee Gray wrote. “If I could take the place of Mason and Christian, I would without a second thought.”
“We are all in a living nightmare right now, and I will personally never forgive myself for what has happened,” she continued. “My son Colt is not a monster. He is my oldest baby. He is quiet, thoughtful, caring, funny, and extremely intelligent. Please pray for him and the rest of our family, as I am praying for all of you every moment of every day.”
The letter surfaces the week after the shooting, which left the two students and two teachers dead in addition to 9 injured, who were not identified.
In the days following the shooting, it was also revealed that the mother had reportedly “warned school officials” at least “30 minutes prior” to the deadly attack.
Marcee Gray warned the school’s counselor the morning of the shooting after receiving a text message from her son stating “I’m sorry.” Many have argued that if she automatically knew what her son was referring to with the “I’m sorry” message, then she could very well be compliant in the murders.
“The counselor said, ‘I wanted to let you know that earlier this morning, one of Colt’s teachers had sent me an email saying Colt had been making references to school shootings,’” Marcee Gray stated. “Between my gut feelings, the text messages, and now this email, you need to, like, run to the classroom.”
Officials claim that Colt began shooting around 30 minutes after Marcee’s warnings.
Colt was then apprehended after a confrontation with a school security officer, and he has since been taken into custody.
Colt’s father, Colin, had previously purchased an AR-15 rifle for his son, which was the same weapon used in the killings. Colin has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
Colt’s “uneasy” upbringing has also come to light, as Marcee Gray has had multiple drug and domestic violence arrests, which ultimately led to her losing custody of Colt as well as her other children.
Colt had been living with his father, who is also allegedly dysfunctional, with the boy’s relative claiming that Colt and his father would often get into screaming matches.
“He would call Colt names to his face,” a relative of Colt’s mother claimed. “Names that no boy wants to hear: sissy, p—y, bitch … just names that were meant to break him down and emasculate him.”
Both Colt and father Colin have not entered a plea deal in their first court appearance on September 6th, and they are being held without bail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for December 4th.
