The uncle of Uvalde shooter Salvador Ramos, who previously killed 19 students and two teachers, said that he begged police to talk to his relative in order to end the dire situation altogether.

According to new transcripts and recordings released by the city, Armando Ramos, Salvador’s uncle, had urged police officers that his nephew “always listened to him” and that if he could speak with him, he might be able to convince the shooter to put down his weapon and turn himself in.

“Maybe he could listen to me because he does listen to me, everything I tell him he does listen to me,” Ramos explained to dispatchers. “Maybe he could stand down or do something to turn himself in.”

He continued, telling dispatchers that Salvador was with him the previous night and that he had stayed with him in his room all night. He also mentioned that his nephew was upset because his grandmother had been “bugging” him.

“Oh my god, please, please don’t do nothing stupid. I think he’s shooting kids,” Armando panicked on the call.

On May 24th, 2022, Armando’s call came in 10 minutes after the shooting stopped, but Ramos was already dead.

This weekend, Uvalde city officials made phone conversations and police footage from the Robb Elementary School massacre on May 24th, 2022, public after a protracted legal battle.

After city officials refused to provide documents pertaining to the shooting, The Associated Press and other news organizations filed a lawsuit, and in response, the records were made public.

Many have criticized law enforcement’s response to the shooting, calling it a “massive tactical and moral failure,” with nearly 400 officers waiting more than 70 minutes to confront the gunman.

The law enforcement team, which consisted of 91 state police officers, approximately 150 U.S. Border Patrol agents, as well as local and school police, waited in the hallway while parents outside begged the police to step in as desperate students inside the classroom continued to call 9-1-1 on their cell phones.

The gunman had been inside a classroom, aiming his gun at children and teachers. However, a disturbing and angering video from the scene depicted police officers loitering in the hallway, some of them with rifles and bullet proof shields.

Nevertheless, at approximately 12:50 p.m., a tactical team finally forced its way inside and they shot Salvador Ramos to death.

Meanwhile, former Uvalde school police chief Pete Arredondo and former school officer Adrian Gonzales have both entered not guilty pleas to numerous felony charges of child abandonment and endangerment.

A Texas state trooper from Uvalde who was suspended over the controversy was also reinstated this month.

In addition, the parents of the victims have filed federal and state lawsuits against law enforcement, social media platforms, online gaming companies, and the gun manufacturer of the rifle that the shooter used. They have also demanded that more officers be charged.
