Arizona’s GOP candidate Kari Lake won the Republican Senate primary and she now advances to a key matchup against Ruben Gallego, the opposing Democrat representative.

The matchup is crucial and presents the opportunity to tip the scales for partisan control within the Senate.

In the primary, Lake defeated county sheriff Mark Lamb, whose campaign message was mostly based on securing the border. Additionally, Lamb’s campaign could only raise $2 million, while Lake’s campaign brought in $10.3 million.

The sought-after seat was previously held by independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who chose to vacate and not run for reelection.

“Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” said Sinema.

Meanwhile, Gallego, a marine veteran and House member, ran unchallenged within the Democrat primary.

“In the 554 days since we have launched this campaign, Arizonans in every corner of the state have made clear that they want a U.S. Senator who can bring people together to defend abortion rights, cut costs for families, protect our water future, and take care of our veterans – and that’s exactly what I intend to do,” said Gallego.

Lake has stressed to voters how important her seat in the Senate will be during a 2nd Trump term, as the Democrats currently hold a 51-49 majority in the Senate.

“Knowing that I’m Trump-endorsed is important to a lot of people here in Arizona,” said Lake. “He can’t do this alone… He needs backup in Washington, D.C. And I’m going to be his backup.”

Lake’s tour bus features a giant decal of her and Trump, along with the phrase, “Endorsed by President Trump.”

“This is not a battle between Democrats and Republicans. This is a battle between good and evil,” Lake said. “This is a battle between the people who want to destroy this country and the people who want to save America.”

However, Lake also has an uphill battle to go against, as Gallego holds an over 5 million dollar cash advantage in his campaign compared to Lake’s campaign.
