A Wisconsin judge has shot down a suit over planned protest routes by the ACLU and March on the RNC Coalition, ruling the city of Milwaukee and the U.S. Secret Service are within their rights to maintain a “hard security perimeter.”

The decision came down on Tuesday, just a week out from the Republican National Convention.

The month-old suit was filed by protest groups seeking to be “within sight and sound” of the convention venue.

In Tuesday’s ruling, the judge found that the defendants have “legitimate security and other governmental interests.”

March organizers say that the ruling is unacceptable.

“There is absolutely no reason they cannot accommodate our march. If the city will not play ball with us, we will simply take the ball and play ourselves,” said Omar Flores, co-chair of the March on the RNC 2024.

The coalition has previously said it will march “within sight and sound” of the venue regardless of security conditions.

Demonstrators have two days to decide if they will continue to pursue legal action.
