On Monday morning, Princess Kate, 42, issued an apology after numerous image agencies removed a shared photo of her with her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.
The princess expressed regret and explained that her choice of editing was the reason for the uncertainty surrounding the photo in a Monday morning post from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ account on X (Twitter).
Middleton admitted on Monday that the Mother’s Day family portrait shared on Sunday had indeed been edited, and she apologized for any “confusion” that these alterations may have created.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” she said on X. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”
On Sunday, the princess shared a message on her official social media page.
The picture was also distributed by Kensington Palace soon after its posting. The image featured Kate and her three children beside her, and it was purportedly taken by Prince William last week in honor of Sunday’s Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom.
Numerous international news organizations, including Agence France-Presse, Reuters, Getty Images, and the Associated Press had purchased the photo. However, those agencies later withdrew the picture, claiming that it was likely edited before the Royals released it.
On Sunday, the Associated Press reported that it seemed as though “the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not meet AP’s photo standards.”
The image was also taken down by UK news agency PA Media Group.
“In the absence of that clarification, we are killing the image from our picture service,” PA Media Group reportedly stated.
Kensington Palace declared that the original, unaltered portrait of Kate and her kids will not be released.
