Democrat Senator Joe Manchin has said that he would “absolutely” consider a presidential run in 2024.

In an interview on Wednesday with “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell , Manchin (D-W.Va.) told her he would consider a run for the White House.
“I will do anything I can to help my country, and you’re saying, ‘Does that mean you would consider it?’ Absolutely,” Manchin told O’Donnell.
Manchin said his first order of business would be researching if there’s enough support for a moderate candidate like himself.
“I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure, to mobilize that moderate, sensible, commonsense middle,” he said.
Manchin also discussed in the interview that he is terrified of another four years of former President Donald Trump in the White House.
“I’m totally, absolutely scared to death that Donald Trump would become president again,” he said. “I think we will lose democracy as we know it.”
The news comes after Manchin announced recently he would not be seeking re-election to the Senate in 2024.
He also said that he believes a President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris ticket is not strong enough to defeat Trump. Manchin later claimed that Biden has moved “too far left” with his policies, such as the ongoing southern border crisis.
Manchin recently has been floated as a possible 2024 presidential contender for a third-party ticket.
“Regarding our No Labels Unity presidential ticket, we are gathering input from our members across the country to understand the kind of leaders they would like to see in the White House,” the group said in a statement after Manchin announced his Senate retirement.
