On Friday, a spokesperson for Schumer (D-N.Y.) released a statement announcing that the New York Democrat will be heading to Israel with a group of legislators.
“Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the highest ranking Jewish elected official in United States history, will be leading a bipartisan CODEL to Israel this weekend to show the United States’s unwavering support for Israel,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
“There, Leader Schumer will meet with the new unity government, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Benny Gantz, as well as President Isaac Herzog. Sen. Schumer will discuss what resources the United States can provide to support Israel on all fronts.”
The announcement comes as Congress is contemplating how much money and military equipment they will be sending to Israel.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin have visited the Jewish State in recent days.
Additionally, Schumer’s office stated they will be meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog and Benny Gantz, who is part of a newly formed wartime cabinet in Israel.
The New York Democrat returned from a trip to China earlier this week, where he pleaded with officials to condemn the attacks by Hamas in Israel.
The Israeli military ordered the evacuation of over one million civilians to evacuate Northern Gaza “for their own safety and protection,” with a planned Israeli ground offensive on the horizon.
Hamas responded by telling their citizens to “remain steadfast in your homes and to stand firm” against Israel.
