The Biden Administration is now targeting ceiling fans to add to their green agenda.

The Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing a rule that would require ceiling fans to be more energy efficient, claiming it would save households on energy costs, prompting backlash from Republicans and manufacturers.

According to the DOE, the new rule would save close to $39 over the entire lifespan of the new energy-efficient fan.

Despite the savings for households, manufacturers linked to the new equipment it will cost a total of $86.6 million per year, according to the department.

However, Republicans on the House Committee on Small Business stated if the rule goes into effect, small manufacturers have a real possibility of going out of business, due to the extra costs companies would have to take on to be in compliance with the changes.

“This rule would require numerous small business fan manufacturers to redesign their products and may put between 10 and 30 percent of small business ceiling fan manufacturers out of business,” the GOP members of the committee wrote in a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Thursday. “It appears that the Department of Energy may not have properly considered small entities during this rulemaking process.”

Additionally, the DOE estimates the purchase price of fans would increase by at least $10 a piece if the new changes take place and by four years time the additional cost would be covered with energy bill savings.

This comes as the Biden Administration has proposed changes over the past several months on other appliances including gas stoves, ovens, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers and other essential appliances.

“Their philosophy is energy efficiency at all costs or energy efficiency no matter the cost,” a former senior Energy Department official, who served during the Trump administration, previously told Fox News Digital. “That means we are going to see, as a result of their efficiency standards, higher-priced appliances. It’s that simple.”
