Atmore police received a call from The Tavern sports bar just before midnight after a report of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 24-year-old Hannah Annette Martin with severe injuries. Officers began CPR before Martin was transported to a local hospital. However, he later died from her injuries.
Kenneth Elbert Harrison, 45, was the driver identified in the incident. He was also previously convicted of beating a man to death in 2011.
Harrison reportedly parked his 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe in the lot of The Tavern bar after he struck the woman. An unknown number of bystanders then jumped into action and began assaulting Harrison, beating him so severely that he had to be air-lifted to a local trauma center.
Harrison was then put on life support before eventually passing away in the hospital.
Martin had reportedly parked her vehicle across the highway from The Tavern and was crossing to get to it when she was hit, according to Atmore Police Sgt. Darrell McCann.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage to determine all of the parties involved. An investigation is also scheduled to take place later on.
This is a developing story.
