Sofia Haley Marks, 20, was detained on Thursday by New York City police officers and federal drug agents on the suspicion of selling drugs to Leandro De Niro Rodriguez. The news had been reported by a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to not being authorized to disclose the incident.
Robert De Niro said after Rodriguez’s death that he was “deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.”
On July 2nd, Rodriguez’s body was discovered in his Manhattan apartment.
Drena De Niro, Rodriguez’s mother, posted a message on Instagram announcing his passing.
She explained in a comment in her post that her son passed away because “someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills.”
Rodriguez was an actor who, like his well-known grandfather, had been with his mother in films including Bradley Cooper’s 2018 adaptation of “A Star is Born.”
It is reported that Marks is scheduled to appear in federal court later on Friday.
