A task-team led by Prince Harry claims U.S. leadership must punish individuals who “use their privilege to harm the public” online. That’s according to a report released by the Aspen Institute’s Commission on Information Disorder on Monday.

The report details the supposed dangers on the internet, describing it as a “fertile ground for those who wish to undermine confidence” in the 2020 election. It recommends the U.S. government and private sector must team up to create new internet norms. The new internet norms would apparently “hold super-spreaders of misinformation to account” with personal and professional consequences.

While speaking with the Aspen Institute Monday, one of the commission’s co-chairs, Rashad Robinson, responded to concerns about whether this violates the First Amendment. He was then asked whether he believes that “misinformation and disinformation should be one of the urgent issues of global importance alongside vaccine equity and climate change.” However, he responded with a somewhat blanket statement.

Meanwhile, this commission is offering a $75,000 prize to any team who figures out how to put their sweeping recommendations into action.
