After nearly 14 years, Britney Spears is finally free.
On Friday, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ruled to terminate the singer’s conservatorship. Spears’ attorney said a “safety net” would be in place for the singer’s personal care and finances, and her assets are also being moved to a trust. The ruling comes after a five-month battle for the 39-year-old to gain control of her life and have her father, Jamie Spears, removed from power.
“What’s next for Britney, and this is the first time that this could be said for about a decade, is up to one person. Britney. She helped shine a light on conservatorships and guardianships from coast to coast. From California to New York, and that took a tremendous amount of insight, courage and grace,” Britney’s attorney Mathew Rosengart said.

Spears wasn’t present at the hearing, but shared to Instagram how much she loved her fans as they cheered outside the courthouse. She stated it was the best day ever.
In the meantime, attorneys have served a notice of deposition for Jamie Spears to testify.
