New details surrounding the case of missing California mother Maya Millete have been released as officials arrested her husband in connection with her disappearance and suspected murder.
In a press conference on Tuesday, San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan confirmed 40-year-old Larry Millete had been arrested outside his Chula Vista home. Maya was last seen in the home before going missing on Jan. 7 of this year.
According to Stephan, the circumstantial evidence found based on an extensive nine-month investigation alleges Maya was killed by her husband after seeking a divorce. The DA added Larry, who was opposed to the divorce, began resorting to spell casting. She stressed she had never had a case before where that was involved.
“These spell casters would be asked to make May [Maya] want to stay in the relationship, but as December of 2020 came, those messages to spell casters were a lot more threatening. He was asking for May to become incapacitated, for May to be in an accident, to have broken bones so that she could stay at home,” said Stephan. “Thus displaying his homicidal ideations to harm May.”

Officials said on the day of Maya’s disappearance, Larry is believed to have left their home for more than 11 hours bringing along the couple’s youngest to dump Maya’s body. However, authorities have been unable to narrow down a search area because Larry left his phone at home that day.
Stephan acknowledged there are going to be several questions about the prosecution due to the fact that Maya’s body is still missing. But, asserted they have enough circumstantial evidence to prove Larry killed his wife.
Pleading with the public during Tuesday’s conference, Maya’s sister asked anyone with information to help bring her sister back home to finally rest.
Meanwhile, investigators are asking anyone who may have seen a black GS-460 Lexus with the license plate “MEILANI” pulled to the side of the road the day of Maya’s disappearance to contact police. Larry is being held without bail and is set to be arraigned Thursday at the South Bay Court House.

In the meantime, Larry Millete has entered a not guilty plea in Maya’s murder case. Larry, 40, pleaded not guilty in front of a judge on Thursday to charges of first-degree murder and weapons possession.
Maya went missing in January, on the same day she was scheduled to speak with a divorce attorney.
If indicted, Millete faces a life sentence. He is due back in court next month.
