A Houston deputy constable was killed and two others injured after a gunman opened fire in an apparent ambush outside of a nightclub in Texas.
According to authorities on Saturday, the deputies were working extra security jobs at the bar when they were attacked at around 2 a.m. Reports said the trio went outside to respond to a possible robbery and were trying to detain a suspect when they were shot by an additional suspect from behind.
Authorities confirmed one deputy died and one was in critical condition after being shot in the back and the other shot in the foot.
“They went outside to address a disturbance, turns out it may have been a robbery that they were intervening in, which was probably unknown to them at the time. They were trying to arrest a suspect or detain a suspect and were wrestling with them when they were ambushed,” Houston Police Department Executive Asst. Chief James Jones said.
While authorities detained a person of interest at the scene, he is not believed to be the shooter.
