Family members and loved ones are mourning the loss of Miya Marcano, a college student who went missing more than a week ago in Florida. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office recently said officers discovered a body believed to be that of the 19-year-old college student near an apartment complex in Orlando.
A medical examiner hasn’t confirmed the identity, however, officers assure they’re certain and said Marcano’s identification card was found nearby. The Valencia College student was first reported missing Friday, Sept. 24 after last being seen at the Arden Villa apartment complex where she lived and worked.
Officers named 27-year-old Armando Caballero, a maintenance worker at the complex, as the prime suspect. This comes after he had used a master key to access Marcano’s apartment. According to investigators, Caballero demonstrated a romantic interest in Marcano and after obtaining a warrant for his arrest, officers found him dead from an apparent suicide inside a garage.

Authorities said hundreds of personnel were committed to the case and everyone hoped for a different outcome. A vigil outside of the teen’s apartment became a memorial as several family members and loved ones gathered in remembrance of Marcano.
“Lord, grant us. Even though you did not give us Miya the way we wanted her, we are grateful,” a family friend said at the vigil. “Miya, we love you. I will always love you. This is not goodbye, this is see you later. We love you Miya.”
Officers said they conclusively believe Caballero is responsible for the crime and that there are no other persons of interest they’re looking for in this case. In the meantime, family members have expressed how grateful they are for everyone’s part in the search.
