Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks (R) recently called his main primary opponent a professional lobbyist. In an interview Saturday, the Republican discussed his campaign to take over for Sen. Richard Shelby (R) in the Senate.
With the endorsement of President Donald Trump, Brooks is currently leading the field with 60 percent support among Republicans. His opponent, Katie Britt, is at less than 10 percent.
However, Britt has raised millions of dollars, which is much more than Brooks has to boost her name recognition. Brooks believes the establishment is trying to buy their own senator.
“And you would anticipate those people would much prefer to pay money for a senator than pay money for a lobbyist,” he stated. “So, in effect, they’re trying to hire their own senator and we knew that would be the case — that there would be huge money hauls coming in probably in each quarter.”
President Trump weighed-in on the race on behalf of Brooks while asking why Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is wasting money. According to the 45th president, McConnell is using his own super-PAC to fund Britt.

Meanwhile, outgoing Sen. Shelby has endorsed Britt as well, in turn, putting himself at odds with President Trump.
