Footage released Thursday showed Officer Eric Stillman yelling: “Drop it!” to 13-year-old Adam Toledo. Police said Toledo was armed when he fled from officers following reports of shots fired in the Chicago area. As Toledo turned to face Officer Stillman, he appeared to put his hands in the air. The officer then fired his weapon and struck the teen once in the chest.
The Chicago Police Department has put out a video that chronicles the sequence of events leading up to the shooting of Adam Toledo.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has urged for peace as an independent board looks further into the shooting.
“We live in a city that is traumatized by a long history of police violence and misconduct,” said Lightfoot. “So, while we don’t have enough information to be the judge and jury of this particular situation, it is certainly understandable why so many of our residents are feeling an all too familiar surge of outrage and pain.”
Meanwhile, community leaders and Toledo’s family have called for peaceful demonstrations following the video’s release.
