The largest school district in the nation has reopened all of its high schools. On Monday, high school students in New York City resumed in-person instruction for the first time since November.
This week, the district expected to welcome up to 55,000 students, which is roughly 20 percent of the high school population. Meanwhile, the majority continue remote learning. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio thanked teachers and added, he is hopeful for the future.
What a joyous morning at the Bronx School for Law, Government & Justice! So heartwarming to see the doors reopen and to join the amazing staff welcoming high schoolers back to in-person learning! I may not work here anymore… but the excitement on students’ faces is timeless. pic.twitter.com/06dXn2f7BG

“To see teenagers are so ready to be back at school, happy to be back with their friends, happy to be back with their teachers and really supportive, warm school community,” de Blasio noted. “Where you know every single day that a child is in that building, with those teachers and staff, [and] they are getting love, support and they are getting the kind of incredible gifts educators give to kids.”
