At least one House Democrat supports the Biden administration’s controversial secrecy surrounding migrant holding facilities. In an interview Thursday, Rep. Linda Sanchez (R-Calif.) said COVID protocols have stopped the government from properly housing minors.

She also said the federal government has been doing the best it can even though she admitted the facilities are not meant to take in illegal immigrant children. Sanchez’s response was the exact opposite of calls for transparency during the Trump-era.

Now, the Democrat lawmaker appears to have a different opinion on the matter.

“I don’t necessarily think that it’s appropriate for journalists to be inside centers that are not permanent places for children,” Sanchez claimed. “They are processed out of those facilities as quickly as possible and as quickly as the facilities will allow.”

The congresswoman’s comments came as journalists and refugee advocates have demanded to see for themselves the conditions at migrant housing facilities along the southern border.
