Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) vowed to ensure the Biden administration will be transparent, open and accountable to the American people. On Wednesday, Scott spoke from the Senate floor and highlighted the importance of government openness, especially in honor of “Sunshine Week.”
Sunshine Week is an initiative that educates people on the potential dangers of secrecy in government. Scott said he’s trying to promote openness and build citizens’ trust in their elected leaders based on the successful Sunshine Laws in his own state, but Democrats and the Biden administration have hindered his efforts.
Happy National #SunshineWeek – a celebration of transparency & openness in government. Being accountable to the American people is a basic function of government & I’ll always work to bring sunshine to DC & make this dysfunctional place work for the American people. ☀️👀⬇️ pic.twitter.com/B7THMyearz

“Unfortunately my Democrat colleagues have blocked nearly every single one of my efforts for transparency and request for information to make Congress the best decisions for American families,” the Republican lawmaker stated. “Last month, I wrote to President Biden’s Acting Director for the Office of Management and Budget requesting any documents related to enacted, but currently unspent COVID Stimulus funding the response none. Total silence.”
Scott went on to blast the recent $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending package as “wasteful.”
