The Biden administration said it has the southern border under control despite state leaders’ calls for help. During a press conference Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki denied there is a growing migrant crisis.

On Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) held a news conference to discuss the rising number of illegal immigrants coming into his state. He called it a “crisis on the Texas border” and said the number of people coming across is “overwhelming.”

However, Psaki attempted to refute those claims by saying the majority of people caught illegally crossing the border are being handled properly.

“Governor Abbott has referred to what is happening at the border as ‘open borders,’ as us having an open borders policy,” Psaki stated. “That is absolutely incorrect. The border is not open. The vast majority of individuals apprehended or encountered at the border continue to be denied entry and are returned under Title 42.”

Abbott blamed the surge on the Biden administration’s move to end the ‘Remain in Mexico Policy’ enacted by the Trump administration.
