Police in Northern California arrested a suspect after he allegedly robbed a local journalist at gunpoint. On Tuesday, 34-year old Ronald Whitten was taken into custody in San Francisco for possession of stolen property. He had a camera belonging to KPIX reporter Don Ford.
Ford was recently covering a string of robberies throughout the Bay Area when a car with four men drove up and demanded he hand over his recording equipment.
“The car came up here while we were about to do an interview,” Ford recalled. “Three guys jumped out, one hand a gun, put it up to my face and said ‘we’re taking the camera.’ My whole thought at the moment was: Let’s be calm. Let’s not get this guy excited. He’s got the gun, I don’t.”
