Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is dropping the state’s COVID-19 mandates. According to a proclamation by the Republican lawmaker, businesses no longer have to abide by strict safety policies from now until March 7.
This means local business and restaurant owners now have the freedom to choose how to regulate their establishments. Reynolds said she’s still asking business owners to stay responsible.
The governor added, Iowans know what needs to be done and “it does not require a government mandate.”
“Prior to November, Iowa didn’t have a mask requirement, but most Iowans wore masks and I’m confident that they will continue to do so,” she stated. “I also trust that business owners will continue to make decisions about how they operate that are in the best interest of their customers and their employees…just as they’ve been doing for months.”

Reynolds reasserted that she trusts Iowans to “do the right thing.”
