National Guard troops are back in the Capitol after reportedly being kicked to the curb by the new administration.
After they were told to vacate the Capitol Building Thursday, the 5,000 National Guard troops brought in to protect Joe Biden’s inauguration were forced to take shelter in an underground parking garage.
Upon seeing the situation, President Trump gave the troops permission to stay at his Trump Hotel in Washington D.C.
Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle demanded the unit be brought back inside, while Joe Biden remained silent on the issue.
The mistreatment of our National Guard troops in the Capitol building that was reported yesterday evening is unacceptable. This morning I sent a letter to @SpeakerPelosi, the acting House Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police Chief requesting answers on how this happened. pic.twitter.com/RcGELnznZa

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) called it a “disgrace,” asking “What do guardsmen get for their service? Rest breaks in cold parking garages.”
Thousands of Guardsmen left their families and jobs to keep the Capitol safe.
And what do they get for their service? Rest breaks in cold parking garages.
What a disgrace. https://t.co/3Rt6tYWM9t

In a string of tweets, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) called it “unreal” and reportedly contacted Capitol Police and a number of lawmakers to demand answers.
She also gave hourly updates on the situation as it unfolded.
I meant ASAP when I said it. Just made a number of calls and have been informed Capitol Police have apologized to the Guardsmen and they will be allowed back into the complex tonight. I’ll keep checking to make sure they are.

Update: Troops are now all out of the garage. Now I can go to bed.

Before they were let inside, freshman Congressman Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) paid the troops a visit to deliver pizza. He also invited them to stay in his office.
I just visited the solders who have been abandoned & insulted by our leaders. I brought them pizza and told them that they can sleep in my office.
No soldier will ever, ever sleep on a garage floor in the US Capitol while I work in Congress

It’s unclear who gave the initial order for the troops to clear the Capitol, but some Republicans are pointing the finger at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — who has also stayed silent on the matter.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also took to Twitter to attack Joe Biden, questioning how he would allow the National Guard troops to sleep on the concrete.
.@JoeBiden how dare you force our great men and women in the National Guard to sleep on the concrete in a cold parking garage last night!
You and @SpeakerPelosi brought them here for your state military take over and treat them worse than dogs.
Would you do that to Hunter?

Meanwhile, several state governors have ordered their troops to return home.
Last night, I ordered our Adjutant General to bring Florida National Guard soldiers home from the National Capital Region.

With their mission complete, I have instructed Adjutant General Hronek to bring our @GuardMontana soldiers home.
