The White House’s COVID-19 testing czar said “we should have enough vaccine by the end of the year to immunize 20 million Americans.”
Admiral Brett Giroir made the comments in an interview Sunday. He added the vaccines have been tested in tens of thousands of individuals.
“We should have enough vaccine by the end of the year to immunize 20 million Americans and we have to immunize for impact,” says Adm. Brett Giroir, WH testing czar. “But the American people have to do the right things until we get that vaccine widely distributed” #CNNSOTU pic.twitter.com/StNFeP28Pj

He also mentioned the American people have to do the right things before a vaccine is widely distributed, like wearing masks and avoiding crowded indoor spaces.
Giroir said the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have shown safety and effectiveness through trials.
“And remember if we can immunize for impact, that immunizes those groups that are at the highest risk, like long-term care facilities, the elderly, minorities,” Giroir said. “We can absolutely get 80% of the benefit of the vaccine by only immunizing a few percent of the population.”
He added this is a life-saving vaccine and will be the way to get out of the pandemic.
