The number of new coronavirus cases in the U.S. has hit a new high. According to Johns Hopkins University, over 50,000 new cases were reported in the states on Wednesday.
At least five states, including Arizona, California and Texas, have also been seeing daily spikes and record numbers. The Trump administration said the increases are due to heightened testing.with more than half a million tests being done a day.
Many state officials have raised concerns over the Fourth of July weekend and are advising people to continue to wear masks as well as socially distance while out in public.
Meanwhile, President Trump said he supports another round of corona virus relief payments to American households. In an interview Wednesday, he said a potential phase four relief package should provide direct payments to tens of millions of Americans.
The president added that this new round of stimulus checks should provide greater payments to individuals to support consumer spending and business activity.
President Trump is calling on Democrats to approve the new relief package by saying it’s crucial to economic recovery.
