FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer is holding a news conference to provide an update on current gang investigations and the department’s ongoing efforts to remove guns from the streets
“In the last 7 years, there’s 55,000 fewer people in our California prison system. Those individuals are out on our streets throughout California. Many of those are violent criminals and those are the criminals that are coming in possession of these handguns… and using them. That’s why it is so important that people today take extra precaution on how they store their firearms. Storing those firearms in a safe, a safe that is secured and bolted to the floor,” said Chief Dyer. “Anytime you combine criminal justice reform with saving money you’re costing lives and that’s what’s happened in the State of California. We have a weak legislature, we have a weak governor who has allowed these laws to be passed and we have an uninformed voter population in California that has also supported some very weak laws.”
