Complement component C8 is a critical protein in the terminal pathway of the complement system, playing a key role in membrane attack complex (MAC) formation. It consists of three subunits:
C8α: Inserts into lipid membranes, initiating pore formation
C8β: Stabilizes the MAC precursor
C8γ: Enhances solubility and modulates inflammation
