One person was killed, and four others were injured in a shooting at a park in Lexington, Kentucky, according to local authorities.
On Saturday evening, before 7:00 p.m. local time, gunfire erupted at Charles Young Park in downtown Lexington. According to a report from Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, officers were already at the park and quickly responded to the incident.
The shooting left four people with non-life-threatening injuries, including a 4-year-old child, a 14-year-old child and two adults. One person, whose age and identity were not disclosed, was declared deceased after being rushed to a local hospital.
Weathers declined to share information on the suspect. However, he said he did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
“If you know of somebody who might be inclined to use a weapon, please let us know,” Weathers said. “Anything that you can do to let us know before something happens, we’ll greatly appreciate.”
The Lexington shooting comes on the heels of another incident at Virginia State University on Saturday, where multiple suspects shot and wounded five people.
