Senate Republicans have released new pandemic-era text messages revealing Anthony Fauci discussed potential COVID-19 vaccine risks to pregnant women.
The text messages, published by Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Monday revealed Fauci discussed a theoretical link between a second dose of the vaccine and first-trimester miscarriages in early 2021.
In the exchange, Fauci messaged incoming Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky and Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, specifically citing cytokine-related symptoms and fever after a second jab.
“I asked around a bit more and another issue came up that you need to be aware of,” wrote Fauci in a Jan. 25, 2021, text message. “Since many people have significant cytokines storm and fever after the 2nd dose, this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester.”
Walensky responded saying that Fauci’s observation was “definitely a good point, [especially] after dose two.”
The released message was just one of around 34,000 text messages obtained by the Senate Homeland Security Committee from Fauci’s government-issued phone.
