Hosted by Second Lady Usha Vance and her children, a family lemonade stand raised funds directly for the Special Olympics, featuring homemade treats and fresh-squeezed drinks.
On Thursday, the Second Lady posted photos of the lemonade stand on Instagram, saying, “We beat the summer heat yesterday with a lemonade stand — complete with kid-squeezed lemonade and @VP’s cookies and cupcakes! Together, the kids chose to donate the proceeds to our friends at the Special Olympics.”
In the photos, the children could be seen manning the stand behind large dispensers of lemonade as the vice president and second lady stood by. A line of customers formed down the sidewalk in front of the family’s table.
Another published photo depicted that the lemonade and cookies were priced at $3, while cupcakes were priced at $4.
Mrs. Vance informed Breitbart News in a statement that “the lemonade stand raised over $700” and “all proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics.”
The Special Olympics commented on the post, thanking Washington’s second couple for their continued support.
“We invite everyone to join us in building stronger communities where people with ID [Intellectual Disabilities] are included,” the Special Olympics said, referring to disabilities that cause limitations in cognitive functions. “When we #ChooseToInclude people with ID, we help create a more welcoming and connected world for our athletes.”
In November, the Vances served a Thanksgiving feast to U.S. service members and their families at Fort Campbell. The meal included traditional dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce. The vice president’s daughter could be seen making sure each member received a packet of butter.
The second family is also still growing, as their fourth child — a boy — is anticipated to be born later this month.
