Several counties primarily in Central and Southwest Texas are under a Flash Flood Emergency issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) as storms sweep through large swaths of the state.
The Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country rose rapidly, with the river gauge at Center Point ascending 32 feet in just four hours. Among the affected areas is Hunt, the same location that devastating floods killed 25 children and two counselors at Camp Mystic.
Per CNN Weather, an estimated six months’ worth of rain—up to 20 inches in some areas—has already drenched South Texas. The outlet reported dozens of water rescues and evacuations as other residents are urged to shelter in place, with thousands remaining without power.
At Comfort, Texas, the Guadalupe surpassed its historic crest in 2025, registering at over 36 feet on Thursday morning, according to AccuWeather.
Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) said he was briefed on the situation in the southwest and central regions of the Lone Star State. He asserted that officials were expecting 30 inches of rain through the weekend, 10 inches more than the 2025 Fourth of July floods.
“This is a life threatening flood. It is of utmost importance that affected Texans heed weather warnings and local advisories,” he said.
