United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces launched another wave of strikes against Iran eight hours after completing their previous operation, targeting Greater Tunb Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, hostilities reignited in the region and appeared to ramp up in recent days as CENTCOM announced several consecutive nights of strikes against the Islamic Republic, culminating in the Wednesday morning 90-minute wave of strikes on the Iranian island.
“CENTCOM launched precision munitions against coastal defense systems and cruise missile storage and launch sites on Greater Tunb Island during the 90-minute wave. The strikes further degraded Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz,” the command stated.
According to CENCOM, the attack began at 6:00 a.m. ET, which would be early afternoon in Iran, and was completed at 7:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
The timing was a shift from previous operations over the last several days, which CENTCOM usually reported were launched in the afternoon or evening based on Eastern Time.
The Wednesday morning operation came only eight hours after CENTCOM announced it had completed a seven-hour wave on Tuesday night.
“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed an additional round of strikes against Iran at 10:00 p.m. ET, July 14, hitting dozens of military targets near the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian coastal areas,” the command stated.
The military command further added that “Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems” were targeted by “U.S. fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels.”
Tuesday’s attack wave began shortly before the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports officially restarted, according to CENTCOM.
Since the reimplementation of the blockade, CENTCOM said American forces had already “redirected 2 commercial vessels attempting to run the blockade.”
“The U.S. military remains vigilant and prepared to ensure full compliance,” the command stated on Wednesday morning.
On July 7th, CENTCOM said it began launching strikes on Iran in response to the Islamic Republic attacking three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. On Saturday, CENTCOM said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked another ship.
Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM Commander, updated the tally in a Tuesday statement.
“Over the past seven days, Iran has intentionally targeted civilians across the region by attacking seven commercial ships resulting in nearly a dozen civilian crew members killed, missing, or injured. Iranian forces have also launched dozens of missiles and drones toward neighboring Gulf countries,” Cooper stated.
“U.S. forces are holding Iran accountable for unwarranted aggression that continues to endanger innocent lives,” he continued.
